If you're looking for a spot that strikes the right balance between refined seasonal dining and an unpretentious atmosphere, Bistro Nord is well worth a visit. Located right in the heart of the city, this cozy spot has been generating plenty of buzz lately, so I decided to pop in on a Friday evening to see if it lives up to the hype.
The Atmosphere
The interior leans heavily into warm minimalist design—think Scandinavian oak tables, warm ambient lighting, and subtle brass accents. It feels intimate without feeling cramped, making it just as suitable for a low-key date night as it is for a small catch-up dinner with friends.
What We Ordered
- Starter: Smoked Arctic Char ($16)Served on a bed of pickled cucumber, dill oil, and a light crème fraîche whip. The char was perfectly delicate, and the bright acidity from the pickled cucumber cut through the richness beautifully. A standout start to the meal.
- Main: Slow-Roasted Pork Belly ($28)Accompanied by a silky parsnip purée, roasted root vegetables, and a rich thyme jus. The pork belly had an insanely crispy skin while remaining melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside. Comfort food elevated to a fine art.
- Dessert: Deconstructed Apple Crisp ($11)Spiced caramelized apples topped with a sourdough crumble and a scoop of house-made cardamom ice cream. The warmth of the cardamom paired effortlessly with the tartness of the apples.
Service & Flow
The service was prompt without feeling rushed. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, seamlessly guiding us through the drink pairings and taking time to explain the local sourcing behind each dish. From seating to dessert, the entire meal paced naturally over about an hour and a half.
The Verdict
- Food Rating: 4.5/5
- Ambiance: 5/5
- Price Range: $$$ (approx. $55–$75 per person including a drink)
Bistro Nord succeeds by keeping things simple and executing them impeccably. While it sits slightly on the higher end price-wise, the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail make it completely justified.
Would I return? Absolutely—especially to see how their menu evolves with the changing seasons.
